Here’s a few sure ways to get even, radiant, soft skin this winter. Right on time for Valentines Day.
So, It’s cold and dreary outside, warm “who I’m kidding?” HOT and dry inside. Your skin feels like one of those dry, crunchy granola bars that are hard to eat. Rough, dry, and flaky. Ouch!
I should preface this by explaining that i’m a cool weather kind of girl. Crisp cool mornings, cozy evenings by the fire, luscious fragrant baths at night, don’t even get me started on winter fashion. What’s not to love? Dry, flaky winter skin, that’s what. Ha!
Let’s get the obvious good skin essentials out of the way first shall we? Say it with me friends, hydrate! hydrate! hydrate! Water is essential for our well being as well as supple, youthful skin. It doesn’t matter what you put on your skin, no products can do for you, what water can so please beauties, be kind to yourselves and hydrate!
Foods rich in omegas and essential fatty acids are just as important for healthy skin. Salmon, nuts, seeds, avocados, coconut and olive oil are great examples of fatty acids rich foods. They nourish and protect the skin from the inside. They also contain anti-inflammatory properties that protect and soothe skin. This is especially helpful for those who suffer from skin conditions that cause irritation like eczema.
Stay away from products that contain harsh and harmful ingredients like parabens, sulfates, and chemicals that subsequently dry your skin. It’ll help to choose products that are effective yet gentle. There is no reason your bath and body products should read like dish soap. This is your skin after all… no pre-soaking required!
Now for my tried and true products I currently use to keep my skin sooth, supple and well moisturized this winter.
Tree Hut sugar scrub in moroccan rose. I should start by pointing out the efficacy of this product BUT, i have to talk about the scent, just divine. Smells like full bloom roses and vanilla. As if that’s not enough, the scent lingers after the shower and well into the day, or night. My favorite time to use it is right before bed, leaves my skin soft, smooth and perfectly sceneted. Incase you’re wondering. It does the job very well, the exfoliating part of the job. Thank me later.
Love beauty & planet body wash. So here’s the thing, harsh soaps and body cleansers are simply unnecessary. I mean, it’s not like you have stains on you’re skin or are rolling around in mud all day. ( unless you are and even then, not necessary.) This product line is, soothing, cleansing, and hydrating while still being gentle on your skin. Confession? let’s do it. I’m a suds girl. Yap! i said it, I love for my bath products to suds up and foam. These body washes produce a silky, smooth, luxurious foam without drying or stripping my skin and the scent is divine. The price, quantity, efficacy and clean conscious factor you get with this products is hard to beat! It’s love for your skin and our beautiful planet.
Coconut Oil. By now, we all recognize the amazing gift it is to mankind. Coconut oil is moisturizing and nourishing as a result of its fatty acid composition, making it the perfect addition to your winter skin arsenal. Tip: Put your body oil on right after your bath or shower while your skin is still damp. This helps the oil trap the moisture on your skin and to absorbs faster. Great, right?
Shea moisture Tsamma Melon oil body lotion I’m surprised they call this a lotion, it’s thick yet easy to spread and packs just the right moisture punch. This one is quite the gem, unknown and severely underrated with contains shea butter and melon oil assuring it’s efficacy. The anti-aging benefits of this lotion is hard to beat.
Before we part, let’s talk dry brushing. A long standing process of brushing the skin with a natural brush to stimulate lymphatic flow, improve circulation, exfoliate skin, and help with cellulite as well as softening skin. When dry brushing, use a natural brush with firm bristles. Start from your feet up brushing towards the heart. Don’t freak out when you see dry skin floating around on your first try. Dry brushing is soothing and has wonderful benefits for the skin.
